Rogowo. A place with a history that has almost disappeared from view

Today, Rogowo is one of the smallest places on the Polish coast. Set between the Baltic Sea and Lake Resko Przymorskie, for many years it was a place rarely found on the region’s tourist maps.

For decades, much of Rogowo was connected with military activity. Parts of the area were closed and access to certain locations was restricted. While other coastal towns were developing as holiday destinations, Rogowo followed a very different path.

Traces of the past

Traces of this past remained visible for many years. The site where Rogowo Pearl stands today was once occupied by hangars and buildings connected with the former military base. The site of Burco’s first development in Rogowo — Rogowo Rezydencja Nadmorska — had previously been home to military barracks.

The landscape looked very different then. It was shaped by its military purpose rather than by leisure and tourism.

Natura 2000

Over the years, Rogowo gradually began to change. At the same time, large parts of the surrounding area became protected within the Natura 2000 network.

As a result, Rogowo continues to develop in a different way from many other coastal destinations. New development can take place only on land that had previously been developed. Former military sites can therefore find new uses while the natural character of this part of the coast is preserved.

The story continues

When we first stood on the site that is now Rogowo Pearl, we did not see an empty plot waiting for another development.

We saw a place that had been part of Rogowo’s history for decades.

For many years, the site of today’s Rogowo Pearl served a military purpose. Hangars and infrastructure belonging to the former military base once stood here. After they disappeared, the land remained — waiting for a new chapter.

From the beginning, we knew that we were not creating a new place from scratch. Our role was to give a new purpose to a site that was already part of Rogowo’s story.

That is why Rogowo Pearl has been developed with respect for its surroundings and the character of the place.

Today, little remains of the former military infrastructure. What remains is the sense that Rogowo has developed differently from many other places along the coast — shaped both by its past and by the care taken over its future.
